Crime of the Youth Big Deal! Essay Example
Crime of the Youth: Big Deal! Essay Celebrities like Ashley Simpson, Jojo, Aaron Carter, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Lohan belong to a people that we call youth. They are sometimes part of the headlines whether they are launching new albums or starring in a new movie. They stand as models for other youth that seems to be changing every year. Not only has the fashion trends of these people are being admired and looked on to but also their actions regarding their own lives matter to the people around them. An example of this is Lindsay Lohan whom is a hot and gorgeous singer that has been imprisoned for violating some national rules of their country (Lindsay Lohan). For some the older generations, they may treat her action as an aggressive and arrogant act, which might be very opposite to the outlook of the youth: Lindsay Lohan is really appealing and daring! There are questions that are being imposed by some analysts of culture. Is the media shaping the violence that is acquired by youth? Do the shows in the television matter with the way our youth is acting out on many circumstances? Is media making the youth forget their cultural values that should still be integrated in the future generations? Well, some people just do not seem to care about these issues, but an in depth study can figure out some factors that trigger youthââ¬â¢s risk behavior.Understanding Adolescence and YouthTeenagers or adolescents are at a stage that they are about to discover their real selves and are being prepared to the real world, their career lives. The changes in their physical attributes contribute to their feeling of getting into the adult world. For instance, girls notice their breasts are becoming bigger from months or years after they stepped 9 ââ¬â 10 year old. There is also a noticeable increase in the size of their hips, making it difficult for their old jeans to be worn. For the boys, they feel the urge of eating more due to the strenuous activities they do as they grow older. Biceps and triceps are n ow the focus of their concerns, so as to add to their masculinity in the future (Home Office). Generally, adolescents feel more conscious about their physical selves and become less cautious of what they do as part of their discoveries of self. They try doing stuffs that are far more different with their hide and seek or their Barbie bonding with other girl friends. They are undergoing a stage when they find security and affection from their peers making them fight for their independence to their parents by breaking house rules and defending themselves the best way they can to their oppressors known as their parents.Adolescent people comprise the bulk of most of our societies where birth control is not implemented. Japan of course is an exemption for this where the huge part of their population contributes to the work force and not to the part that depend their survival with the earnings of their parents. They contribute to the number of youth which is expected to have high contribu tions in the work and labor force of the country in the future.Facing the ChangesFor instance in the adolescent stage, youth really look for something that neither their friends nor their parents can answer. That is the part when adolescents search for their identities and how to make a big difference in this world. Vices are common in this age such as drinking alcohol and smoking, and worst when an adolescent engages in activities that would violate moral laws. Furthermore, adolescents try to establish their own fashion sense through searching in the ââ¬Å"hippestâ⬠magazines so as to be identified from the others. Though they may belong to a certain group, they still have their own personalities that distinguish them from the others.Adolescents look for affection and love from others. It is at this stage that they are in search of belongingness from their peers. But as it is mentioned by Brutts in his article, it is very important that concerned people like their parents, gu ardians and teachers should guide the youth.Violence on YouthIt has been a clichà © that the youth today are the problem of the world due to the violence they produce in the society. Many researchers are dwelling on the study on how the youth is acquiring the brutality and cruelty they are showing the media (Institute for Youth Development). For one point in the history, there are studies that pointed out that the media is the main reason of this abrupt change in the culture and norms of the youth.Even though the youth of the world came from various places and origins, the same problems arise from continents to continent. According to reports, there is already a huge increase in the percentage of crimes that were made by the youth. Gang rapes, murders, drug abuse, robbery and other crimes that gravely involve the youth, specifically the male participation, are part of the headlines of news reports in paper and in broadcast aside from the government issues that each country has. Wom en or girls also participate in the aggressiveness of the youth through prostitution in places where this business is not legalized. Furthermore, the cruelty of the youth today is spread widely like an epidemic disease that if not halted may cause distraction not only of self but also of the family and nation.Imagine a community full of young people that are engaged in alcohol and drug abuse. Isnââ¬â¢t that a very dreadful and tragic situation? Indeed, it is. Being given of importance, the youth in other places are funded by the government for their growth. The government has its own plans of honing the skills of its youth to its fullest so that they may become highly competitive with others. If the youth by which these funds are allocated has lives that are not for the professionalism the government is expecting, it would just weaken the forces of labor of the government, thus dismay the leaders and give them punishments that would prohibit their ever wanted freedom and independ ence.Cultural Effects and the FutureThe changes and the development of technology accompanied this aggression of the youth. Media covers up a large factor of this fate given that it has shown the youth of examples of actions that should not be done or should not be morally or culturally accepted by a certain culture or religion. In every part of the earth, there are many developments of the portrayal of the roles of anomalous people such as corrupt government officials, cruel teachers and aggressive mistresses. The youth now sees that doing the wrong things can be just right especially when it is not known by the authority; say their parents or the police. When they do something that is not caught often times, it becomes their habit that comes with their routine making them forget the great values our ancestors had inculcated from generation to generation. However, before we get to the point of concluding the harmful effects of their actions, let us try to search for their reasons of doing so. Psychologists and psychiatrists like Kathie Oginsky and Jeffrey Brutts are trained to analyze human behavior so as to relate them with past, present and even with the future personality of their patients. According from the reports, youth gather their violent thoughts through their interaction with people who might have given them the fear, anger and hatred they are showing to others. Media says that even if a toddler can express this kind of violence with bullying other classmates and seeing no regrets after the action. These behaviors must be treated by the experts to avoid much damage; both for the physical and emotional being of the victim (person being bullied) (Kathie Oginsky, 2001).Another thing is that, youth who are oppressed in their homes with very strict but not violent parents tend to experiment and feel joy upon escaping the claws of the predating mommies and daddies. With this, they try stuffs that they think can make them feel a little better, thus a gram of cocaine will do. This is a very simple example of how youth tries to escape with their frustrations in the family. In the TV series entitled Desperate Housewives, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Van de Kamp turned out to be a cruel son going on disco bars with nude girls dancing, and tried using drugs, but eventually fell into his feet admitting that he is a gay. Such examples are very depressing to parents who tried everything to give their children their best efforts for education and other pleasures of being the one who is served by the parents (Desperate Housewives, 2008).An important thing that we must also consider is how we give our punishments to our children. We all no that no one in this world is born perfect, and that is to say we commit mistakes in our daily lives and with our decisions, we might be very careless that can cause some consequences on it. Our youth also do the same. Since they are preparing to become adults, they try to make decisions on their own sometimes with the habit of just ââ¬Å"crossing the riverâ⬠when the action is already done. If parents punish their children for example in a very violent way, close to killing them, then they may be also cruel in treating other people. They may punish their subordinates or the people they interact with the same way their parents punish them.In what can be seen, say morally, kids do not consider the things that were being considered 10 years ago. With that very short span of time, the transition of the values of the youth is very explicit. Having a number of condom commercials can be a good proof that media now do not offer so much limitation in what they show to people. This is giving rise to the problem of many, which is youth violence, which are often taken for granted. An article about juvenile delinquency (2003) states that factors for this issue can also be connected with the youth committing violence and crime. The factor that the article mentioned were: economic and social factors t hat are connected with present politics, crises and the like; cultural factors, urbanization that results to modernization of ideals, family that brings about rejection or inferiority complex that usually results to rebellion; migration; media that offers new ways of living life; exclusion, peer influence and delinquent identities. The article also mentioned some practices to prevent such issues like imposing to parents that they must not be treating their children violently because it can trigger violent behavior in the future lives of the young. Income generation is also a way to divert the attention of the youth. Instead of engaging to activities that involve vices and not so good stuffs, youth will be oriented of how hard it is to obtain money in sustaining every dayââ¬â¢s expenses. Moreover, if a youth is still under age, they might be given chances to be in sports fest and recreational activities that will enhance their good personalities rather than the aggressive and viol ent part. A good planning of youth activities may indeed help in the success of each goal: preventing youth crime and violence. In order to stop this dispersion of decayed thinking of youth, the government must impose a bill that can control the explicitly inviting pictures to the youth giving them the access to any place in town. Media plays a role in molding the culture of the young people and it is just right that they put discourse to youth crime/youth problems in great attention. In that way of focusing on youth, they can correct the mistakes of the careless past advertisements and at least encourage the youth to participate and contribute to the welfare of the nation (US Scouting Service Project, 2007).Parents must have their close relationships with their sons and daughters. I feel on my part that if the youth is nurtured with adequate love and freedom, they will not seek for something more of their limits. Instead, they will grow as better persons who will have their goals of succeeding more in their loves, whether it concerns their academe, career or family life.ReferencesDesperate Housewives. Bios. Building a Comprehensive School Discipline Referral Form
Building a Comprehensive School Discipline Referral Form A school discipline referral form is utilized in most school districts. Each district tailors the referral form to meet their particular needs. There are many important reasons that school districts require their teachers and administrators to utilize these forms. These include: Creating a paper trail to protect everyone involved.Gives the principal a starting point and foundation for gathering information relevant to the behavior infraction. Can help establish and document a pattern of student behavior.Guides the discipline process ensuring that every student sent the office on a discipline referral is being met with the same process.à Forces the teacher to evaluate what prior strategies they have implemented on their own to attempt to correct the behavior. Schools that do not use a school discipline referral form to document student behavior issues will likely have several obstacles should legal action be taken by a constituent of the district. Investigating obstacles and enabling located firms in special economic Essay
Investigating obstacles and enabling located firms in special economic zones - Essay Example The ââ¬Å"special economic zoneâ⬠(SEZ) is another term used to refer to the formation of modern economic region. In line with this, governments worldwide normally promote the development of SEZs in order to increase the chances wherein the country could experience increase not only in intra-regional and international trade activities but also the inflows of foreign investments and creation of new job opportunities for the local people (Wang, 2013; Brautigam and Xiaoyang, 2011). In the process of improving transportation infrastructure that connects the SEZs to the local market (Baissac, 2011, pp. 24 ââ¬â 25), ports, and airports, more local and foreign investors will become more attracted in investing in SEZs. Companies that operate in SEZs are normally given special business incentives like duty-free imports, tax holidays, the benefit of having a more simplified procedure when dealing with the customs (FIAS, 2008, p. 2) or reduction in import taxes for foreign-based companies (Gunawardana and Sisombat, 2008). Since each type of SEZ is being governed by a different set of policies and rules particularly when it comes to taxation and conditions on investment and international trading (Dobrogonov and Farole, 2012, p. 5; Baissac, 2011, p. 23), this study aims to focus on analyzing the case of Savan-Seno Special Economic Zone (SASEZ) in Savannakhet Province in Laos. As such, the rationale for zone development will be tackled in details followed by discussing the geographical, economical, and international trade factors that can affect the performance of SASEZ. In relation to geographical, economical, and international trades, this study aims to identify the determinants of FDI, participation strategies used by foreign investors, and the common challenges these firms would normally encounter in SASEZ. The main objective of this study is to identify all geographic, economic, and international trade factors that

Tuberous Sclerosis A Rare Disease Research Proposal
Tuberous Sclerosis A Rare Disease - Research Proposal Example Definition of Tuberous Sclerosis Tuberous Sclerosis is one of the genetic and rare disorders being closely monitored and evaluated by the Office of Rare Diseases Research (ORDR) under the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (ORDR, 2009). It was thereby defined as ââ¬Å"a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous noncancerous (benign) tumors in many parts of the bodyâ⬠(ORDR, 2009, par. 1). The definition provided by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS) more comprehensively identified the affected parts of the body, to wit: ââ¬Å"Tuberous sclerosis--also called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) - is a rare, multi-system genetic disease that causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. It usually affects the central nervous system and results in a combination of symptoms including seizures, developmental delay, behavioral problems, skin abnorma lities, and kidney diseaseâ⬠(NINDS, 2012, par. 1). Both definitions classify this disorder as genetic and manifested through multiple growths of specifically identified tumors in different parts of the body. Causes Since the disease is classified under genetic and rare disorder, its cause is thereby traced through inheritance (PubHealth Med, 2010). As disclosed, ââ¬Å"changes (mutations) in two genes, TSC1 and TSC2, are responsible for most cases of the condition. Only one parent needs to pass on the mutation for the child to get the disease. However, most cases are due to new mutations, so there usually is no family history of tuberous sclerosisâ⬠(PubHealth Med, 2010, pars. 2 & 3). This means that although most cases have identified the cause to be directly handed to the sibling from even one parent, there have been cases where both parents did not carry a defective gene but new mutations were manifested. Known through a process called ââ¬Å"gonadal mosaicism. These p atients have parents with no apparent defects in the two genes that cause the disorder. Yet these parents can have a child with TSC because a portion of one of the parent's reproductive cells (sperm or eggs) can contain the genetic mutation without the other cells of the body being involvedâ⬠(NINDS, 2012, par. 8). Symptoms The symptoms for this illness were categorized into three: skin symptoms, brain symptoms, and other symptoms, and are hereby detailed as follows: (1) skin symptoms include: areas of the skin that are white (due to decreased pigment) and have either an ash leaf or confetti appearance; red patches on the face containing many blood vessels (adenoma sebaceum); and raised patches of skin with an orange-peel texture (shagreen spots), often on the back; (2) brain symptoms include: developmental delays, mental retardation, seizures; and (3) other symptoms include: pitted tooth enamel, rough growths under or around the fingernails and toenails, rubbery noncancerous tu mors on or around the tongue (PubHealth Med, 2010). Genetic Make-Up The explanation provided by Howell (n.d.) on the genetic analysis of this illness clearly and explicitly illustrated the mutation in one of two identified genes, the ââ¬Å"TSC1 gene is located on chromosome 9q34 and the TSC2 gene on chromosome 16p13â⬠(Howell: Gene Analysis, n.d, par. 1). The illustrations are hereby presented as

Entrepreneur ship Essay Example for Free
Entrepreneur ship Essay Regardless the state of the country, one can realize that coffee is one of the most favorite products among American people. It has remained in the top positions for some decades. However, drinking coffee is not only the consumption of a product; it has become a daily activity. It is normal to hear this question when someone wants to meet up with one person: ââ¬Å"do you want to get a coffee tomorrow and we can talk about? â⬠Any excuse is good enough to get a cup of coffee. The beginning of the coffee industry dates back to the 1960ââ¬â¢s, when a man named Alfreed Peet felt the inspiration to create the first gourmet coffee shop (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). That inspiration came, between other reasons, because he grew seeing his parents ââ¬Ëcoffee business (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). He was living in Holland and later in Indonesia. After that, he went to California where he thought he had the necessary knowledge to start his own business. By doing that, Peet started to produce a richer and more complex coffee that the available coffee at the market (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). Because of his marketing strategy, motivation through employees and resilience to fall, Alfreed Peet was one of the most innovative and creative entrepreneurs of coffee industry. Some people think that entrepreneurs are different from everyone else since they think these people were born with a special ability that nobody else has. However, these people are what they are because they learn from experience, including inconvenient experiences. Peet reached a great success because he did it. Despite this level of success, Peet can still became a better brand by introducing an aggressive advertising, worldwide expansion, and improving the pricing system. Peet had the features that best define an entrepreneur. First, he had the vision to open a shop in an unfamiliar market, the coffee market. Vision is a characteristic that most of the entrepreneurs have (Boone and Kurtz 608). Entrepreneurs do not fall depressed when people tell them that their business will not run successfully. Instead, they trust in their intuition and continue until they get what they want (Kelly and McGowen 92). Along with vision, Peet had passion about his coffee. He did not think in becoming rich or famous, but making the best coffee he could. He knew the importance of enjoying the process rather than thinking about the outcome. Moreover, he had enough motivation to start his business and offer the best product and service. This is the most important factor that one person must have to get anything in his or her life. Some people do not pay enough attention to how important the motivation is to succeed in any field. When one is motivated, it is much easier to reach any goal. Time does not seem to go by when one feels a motivational force inside him. Furthermore, the motivation makes one enjoy whatever he or she is doing. Then, along with this enjoyment, the results come without the sense of effort. ââ¬Å"Motivation is important simply because it allows you as a leader to meet and even exceed your own organizational goalsâ⬠(ââ¬Å"importanceâ⬠). However, motivation is not enough if one does not spend time working. For this reason, Peet knew that dedication was important if he wanted to be successful in the coffee industry. He did not believe in luck, but in causality. Another reason why he was a successful entrepreneur was that he wanted to see the growth of his family? s coffee business. He wanted to continue what was started decades ago. Finally, the word ââ¬Å"commitmentâ⬠. To Peet, it meant to be persistence. If he wanted his dream to become a reality, he had to overcome big obstacles. It meant never giving up and to being congruent by taking action instead of just talking. Peet? s coffee should be an admired company because of its behavior towards employees and customers. Peet? s makes an effort in having a good workplace where employees must be prepared to create the great coffee that customers like (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). It has been proven that the performance of the employees is greater when they are in a comfortable and attractive environment. Moreover, Peet knows the importance of making his employees feel well. An employer should not only think of the employees as part of the company, but should also take into consideration their opinions and complaints. ââ¬Å"Democratic leadership ordinarily produces higher member satisfaction and morale. It also results in higher quality decisions when members have as much or more knowledge than the leader regarding a particular problemâ⬠(Sharpe). The results of a company depend on the performance of the employees. Espinosa states that an important step is ââ¬Å"to be a positive model as a leader. Youââ¬â¢re supposed to be a good example for your members to emulate, and a person worth respecting. â⬠Good team work is an essential part of any job because the best results are achieved when everybody goes in the same direction. Moreover, motivation is crucial to push people to get their goals. ââ¬Å"Democratic leaders involve members in decision making either by reaching consensus or by using parliamentary procedure. They pursue open, trusting, follower-oriented relationshipsâ⬠(Sharpe). The relationship between Peet and his customers has also been excellent during the time that Peetââ¬â¢s coffee has existed. (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). This relationship is passed from parents to their children and grandchildren and it seems to be continuing for a long time. Besides, Peetââ¬â¢s company has developed different economic and education programs in order to collaborate with the growth of the countries that provide beans and leaves for his coffee (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). To summarize, Alfreed puts the emphasis on being a big family who plays on the same team. Every member of the team has different tasks to do in order to reach the same goals for Peetââ¬â¢s coffee, which are to make a profit, offer an excellent service to the clients, and of course, to enjoy while doing it. Peet knows that the world has changed in the last decades; therefore, he has adapted to the marketing changes along these years. At the beginning of his expansion, Peet started in a local place where the coffee market was becoming more popular. At that time, the marketing concept changed and the businessââ¬â¢ owners started to offer the goods and services that their clients demanded in a higher quality than their competitors (Boone and Kurtz 380-381). Thus, Peet wanted to get customer satisfaction more than anything else. However, times changed and Peet had to adapt if he wanted to continue being successful. Peet spread out his stores to different states of the country such as California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon and Washington (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). Moreover, the last decades are characterized by some changes in marketing. Marketers are conscious of the importance of keeping loyal customers. Boone and Kurtz say that ââ¬Å"acquiring a new customer can cost five times more than keeping an existing customerâ⬠(380-381). For this reason, Peet not only provided his products in his stores, but he started to look for ways that customers could find his products everywhere. Customers can now buy his products in different supermarkets around the country. For example, Safeway, Super-valu and Ralphs offer his products (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). In addition, Peet has seen how technology has grown in the last years and he has created his own website. This website gives the customers the opportunity to see, compare and buy Peetââ¬â¢s products. This website has also a service for customers and they can ask any question related to the products which will be answered by his representatives (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). Another important marketing feature of Peetââ¬â¢s business is that he is not only a retailer for his customers, but he is also a wholesaler for distributors of restaurants and food services (Peetââ¬â¢s Coffee). Even though Peetââ¬â¢s coffee is famous and well-known by coffee drinkers, there are some strategies that he should use in order to expand his business. First, a better advertising marketing strategy should be utilized if he wants to become more known around the country considering most people do not know about Peetââ¬â¢s coffee. However, when someone tastes this coffee they should ask themselves: How come I have never heard about this coffee? Peet should then invest money in publicizing his products. For instance, an advertisement on television and in a newspaper would make people arouse curiosity about this coffee. Second, it would be a good idea to emphasize the selling in the universities. Between students it is really popular to drink coffee, especially when exams are approaching. Peet should promote specific campaigns where executive go to different universities to publicize its products. The most important thing would be to franchise Peetââ¬â¢s stores in different universities. By doing this, students would start to know Peetââ¬â¢s coffee and it would be an excellent opportunity for Peet to grow his brand. Finally, in my opinion, the best strategy would be to expand his business to other countries of the world. Peet only has stores in the United States. In this situation, he can not expand his branch more than one point. He could expand his stores to other countries of the world because people like to try new brands. Even if one brand like Starbucks is successful around the world, people will still be attracted if a good product is offered to them. If Peetââ¬â¢s marketing strategy has worked in the United States, there is a high probability that it may work in other countries.
