Creativity, psychology and the history of scienc Essay

Children are the most interesting people on earth to sit and watch at play. Their minds are so open to the endless possibilities that allow them to entertain each other for hours on end. Some children play house or pretend to be a mommy with a baby doll, and others pretend to be truck drivers or mechanics. There is always the inevitable play of doctor and nurse, and it is amazing at how much their little minds absorb in just a short amount of time. Adults have sometimes closed off the creative portal in their minds in order to stay focused on more important issues like marriage, work, paying bills, and making it to the gym three times a week. These routines leave little time for play or creativity, but everyone possesses the ability to be creative. Some individuals are more gifted and comfortable with expressing their creativity in positive ways. Some levels of creativity are so amazing that they last a lifetime. In a recent television interview, a country music singer commented on a recent speech given by the President of the Untied States. He quoted the President as having stated that some people have simply made enough money. This was more than an ironic statement to make considering that the United States is in the middle of a horrible economic recession. The country music singer further added that what if some people stopped their lives when they had reached a certain financial level. It was then pointed out that the now deceased actor, Danny Thomas, had taken his money and coupled it with the creative idea to open a hospital just for children who had cancer (Potter, 2009). This ambition was to accomplish the goal of treating every child with cancer without turning anyone away. The hospital is now a well recognized name, Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Creativity comes from the minds of individuals who allow themselves to think beyond the realms of the societal norm. In the above instance, Danny Thomas wanted to share and to give PSYCHOLOGY 3 back to his community. In other words, he wanted to share his wealth in a way that would benefit everyone and not just himself (Davila, Epstein, & Shelton, 2007). His level of creativity afforded him the opportunity to solve the financial and emotional burdens of many parents of children suffering from cancer. It also provided children with the hope of getting better. If more individuals allowed for their creative flow to emerge beyond their own minds, there are many problems that may find resolution. Society has become too convinced to follow the herd rather than to think for themselves (Gruber & Bodeker, 2005). New innovations in medicine, counseling, education, and everyday living could all stand to benefit from the creative idea of one person. Freud was a creative thinker despite his own public ridicule. The field of medicine has benefited from genetic testing that now allows parents to prepare for an unborn child who may be born with a chromosomal defect. Teachers have developed new ways of teaching children with learning disabilities so that they can be later mainstreamed into regular classes. Everyone was born with a mind that allows them to think freely. Creativity is just one of the benefits of being human. Instead of hiding the creativity from within, why not allow it to emerge and grow. Problems could be solved and lives could be changed. Ultimately, it is up to the individual as to how and when the creativity can awaken, but psychologically, it is a gift that should not be overlooked. Two Ways Rococo Painting Differs from Baroque Research Paper

Two Ways Rococo Painting Differs from Baroque - Research Paper Example The first way that the two movements of Baroque and Rococo were different about was the choice of themes for the paintings that came as a result of major influences on the art during the different historical periods. The themes that Baroque artists used were often of religious, Catholic content or reflected some kind of dramatic events. For example, it is obvious when analyzing the painting The Entombment of Christ, where one of the most significant events in the life of God’s son is being depicted. Caravaggio, the author of the painting, is among the most famous artists who painted using the stylistics and themes of Baroque. This particular painting demonstrates the most conventional of the plots used for Baroque paintings. Rococo, as an art movement that initially originated in architecture and interior design, as well as variety of ‘minor arts’, and only later translated into paintings, is generally flirtatious, playful and delicate in comparison to Baroque pai nting. This was in part due to the choice of themes of a less grave or significant nature, which in terms of comparison of it with Baroque indicated departure from serious themes and almost altogether abandoning religious plots. Moreover, erotic motives also become important in this artistic movement, as can be seen on Boucher’s painting Cupid a Captive. This painting in additional indicates the development of theme of nudity that was seen with more orientation on pleasure and entertainment than nudity as depicted by Baroque painters.

Is Investment a Matter of Evaluating Risk or Simply Luck Essay

Is Investment a Matter of Evaluating Risk or Simply Luck - Essay Example Most goals in personal investment are straightforward, in that individuals may be preserving their assets, saving for his or her retirement, funding his or her pension plan, or he or she is meeting a university spending requirement (Finke & Huston, 2003). Harrison et al., (2009), Bajtelsmit and Bernasek (2007), and Finke and Huston (2003) emphasize that personal investment constraints can be simple or complex depending on the individual and the current investment situation. The primary constraint which, individual experiences the tolerance level that an individual has the market risk. Potential return and the market risks are related, in that the desire of an individual to experience a greater return will need his or her exposure to higher market risks (Papke, 2008). In most investment cases, the time horizon is another fundamental constraint. A good example is a university endowment that has an infinite horizon has risks which are unwise for an investor who is looking to invest in his or her child’s education (Duflo & Saez, 2009). Other investment constraints include liquidity requirements, exposure to taxes, legal issues, and other factors such as avoiding some investments. Constraints on personal investments change with time and an individual must carefully study and research on these constraints before deciding on investing in any investment plan. The review provides a discussion of the technical analysis concepts. It reviews on the module showing how it works, depicting two advantages and two disadvantages. The literature reviews on the fundamental analysis, showing how the module works. The research shows two advantages and disadvantages of the analysis. Part two of the research entails the working of the random walk theory, showing and explains how it works.

Racial issues among black & latino boys in school Research Paper

Racial issues among black & latino boys in school - Research Paper Example This is a fundamental variation, since concentrated poverty is related to mediocre educational performance. Poverty at the school level is linked to several factors that impact the overall chance of a school at effectively educating its students, incorporating parent educational backgrounds, accessibility of advanced lessons, educators with specializations in the subject they are handling, fluctuation in enrollment, dropouts, remedied health dilemmas, lower college admission rates and several other critical factors. The large project of compensatory schooling initiated by the nation has had considerable predicaments in achieving improvements and benefits in schools wherein poverty is greatly felt and concentrated. Once school districts go back to vicinity schools, students of white racial background have a tendency to sit beside students from the middle class group but African-American and Latino students are expected to sit beside students from the low class or impoverished group (F ife, 1992). Hence, while discourse over the accurate effect of desegregation persists, it is unquestionable that African-American and Latino students in racially assimilated educational institutions are commonly in schools wherein there are higher levels of standard academic performance than are those in segregated schools. Desegregation does not guarantee that students of non-white racial backgrounds will acquire better opportunities in those educational institutions that rely on how the racially integrated school is managed but it does normally place marginalized students in schools wherein there are better opportunities as well as better equipped and trained peer groups. In a period within which compulsory state examinations for graduation are being implemented, college admissions requirements are getting higher, remedial classes in college are reduced and positive action has previously been eliminated in our two biggest states, the

Performance Measures Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Performance Measures - Assignment Example of this document is to outline the measurement of the performance as post-implementation metrics of the recommendation, namely: â€Å"Change Organizational Approach to Event Monitoring and Log Analysis† (‘Verizon Report’, 2010). The scope of this document includes role and responsibility of key people in an organization, background of the measure, legislative and strategic drivers, measure development process and its implementation. According to Verizon Report 2010, maximum information security breaches in 2009 showed that in most of the breaches the data is compromised after lapse of several days of the breach. It takes effort and time until these breaches are found. Significantly, people other than the victim makes such discovery. The victim upon information reacts immediately and uses the most important defense that is ID/IPS. However, this measure in most cases intensifies the situation rather controlling it. Furthermore, it is not the only defense that organizations have to curb this problem and relying upon it as a last resort does not solve the problem and eliminate it completely (Solms, 2000). The CIO is responsible to change the approach to tackle breach instance at the organization. CIO should ensure that as a post-attack instance, ID/IPS should not be used instantly and as the only measure to control the situation. Instead, batch processing and log analysis should be undertaken with keen interest to identify any stack of viruses or breaches. The focus should be on ‘mass’ breaches rather ‘individual’. Therefore, proper policy and implementation guidelines have to be circulated to all users in the organization regarding the measures to be taken in case breach takes place and is discovered. Additionally, the CIO has to prioritize and select performance measures and develop the targets for their achievement (‘NIST’, 2008). The role of Senior Information Security Officer is to ensure that the program manager uses the changed approach to
