Do not go Gentle into that good nigh Essay Example For Students
Do not go Gentle into that good nigh Essay The poem, Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, is a poem about dying. Death takes on a new and intensely personal meaning for Thomas . Do you agree ? The poem, Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, is a poem about dying. Death takes on a new and intensely personal meaning for Thomas: The poem was his own valedictory; it spoke of his own refusal to give away to his deteriorating health and abuse of his peace of mind(Sinclair 175). Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night was composed in 1945 while his father, D. J. Thomas, was battling cancer. However, it was not published until after his fathers death on December 16, 1952. Four of the six stanzas in the poem address different types of men who are close to death. The first of the four types of men are the wise men. These men might be considered intellectuals or scholars. Thomas says, because their words had forked no lightning they / Do not go gentle into that good night which means that because they have not completed everything in life they wish to, that they will not submit to death without a fight (5-6). In the second of the four stanzas Thomas addresses good men who, like the wise men, have not lived their life to the fullest and still have things to accomplish. Thomas says, crying how bright / Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay / Rage, rage against the dying of the light (7-9). This line means that the good men, now at the end of life, should finally behave passionately and finally be noticed. Thomas believes that the good mens actions have failed to stand out. He thinks that they should do something to be seen by the world instead of dying without being known. The third of the four stanzas is written in regards to wild men. These men are different from the men he spoke of in the previous stanzas. The wild men have lived their life to the fullest unlike their counterparts. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, / And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way means that these men have lived without any reserve in their lifestyle, but what they do not realize is they will soon age and die (10-11). They do not blink an eye at death because they have done everything that they wanted to do with their lives. The final men that Thomas talks about in the poem are the grave men. Thomas addresses the grave men saying, Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight / Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay (13-14). This line means that the grave men, although they are blind, see that death is near better than men with sight. Thomas is saying that they should be happy even though they know what is going to happen to them. In the last stanza Thomas is talking directly to his dying father. Thomas advice for his father is to Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray / Do not go gentle into that good night / Rage rage against the dying of the light (17-19). As with the previous stanzas, Thomas wants his father not to go easily into death but to fight it until his last breath. Dylan Thomas is a well known and frequently read poet. Thomas himself said, All that matters about poetry is the enjoyment of it, however tragic it might be. .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae , .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .postImageUrl , .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae , .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae:hover , .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae:visited , .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae:active { border:0!important; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae:active , .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub41491d846f6a28ceb5ebb96977a8cae:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: How important do you consider 'fate' to be, in the play of Romeo and Juliet? EssayAll that matters is the eternal movement behind it, the vast undercurrent of human grief, folly, pretension, exaltation, or ignorance, however unlofty the intention of the poem (qtd. in Sinclair 233). Because the topics of death and the cycle of life run throughout his works many critics consider him a twentieth-century writer. Whether it was simply his tone, his subject matter, or a bit of both, Thomas poetry brought out a marked response in readers. As discussed, the themes of life and death are especially prevalent in the three poems; And Death Shall Have No Dominion, Fern Hill, and Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night.

Vegetarianism Could Save the Planet
Question: Write an essay on "Vegetarianism Could Save the Planet". Answer: Vegetarianism is the exercise of refraining from consuming meat, which includes poultry, red meat, insects, the flesh of any animal and also seafood(Kids Health, 2016). It also includes refraining from consuming the by-products of slaughtered animals. There are different types of a vegetarians diet. Lacto-Ovo Vegetarians do not feed on meat, fish or poultry. They, however, feed on dairy products and eggs. Lacto-vegetarians do not feed on meat, fish, eggs or poultry, but feed on dairy products. Ovo- vegetarians do not feed on poultry, fish, dairy products or meat but feed on eggs. The last kind of vegetarians are the vegans who only feed on plant-derived foods(Kids Health, 2016). Other individuals are semi-vegetarians refraining from red meat but consume fish or poultry. Vegetarianism is a choice. However, there are queries as to whether a vegetarian gets all the required nutrients. Medical experts confirm that a well-organized vegetarian diet is a very healthy way to eat. Vegetariani sm is chosen due to various reasons. Some individuals due to the respect of sentient life, others health related issues, political, cultural, personal preference and also environmental issues. Vegetarianism is a good thing especially for the protection of the environment as consuming meat wastes and pollutes water sources as well as destroying land and the rain forests, through deforestation among other factors like adding to global warming and the wastage of resources. There are claims that non-vegetarianism does not harm the planet. They state that issues like civilization is what has brought about the damage to the environment that includes water pollution. Meat eaters claim that the agricultural foods that is vegetarian foods, which are promoted to save the planet lead to the pollution of water. They give reasons such as salts runoff from irrigation, that include pesticides and fertilizers, lead to salinization of surface waters; that is pesticides and fertilizers runoff to the surface water. This pollutes the water. They also claim that ground water also contains residue of agricultural practices from pesticides and fertilizers(Natural Resources Management and Environment Department, 2016). Another example meat eaters give is that effluent outfalls from factories, waste treatment plants, and refineries pollute the water and by them consuming meat they do not affect the water sources. Agriculture also involves animal farming. The fact that irrigation may be the cause of water pollution is not entirely the whole truth. Poor farming methods, which are avoidable through education, are the reason as to why there is no proper use of pesticides and fertilizers. One of the biggest attributes of water pollution is keeping animals for food. The number of bacteria, antibiotics, and pesticides concentrated in the flesh of these animals is also contained in their feces. Much of these waste excrement from abattoirs and factory farms flow into rivers and streams leading to their contamination. Rivers carrying livestock waste dump excess waste into gulfs and bays leading to the death of huge zones of the marine areas. Effluents from factories also arise mostly as a result of processing meat and other non-vegetarian products when compared to vegetarian products. According to Peta India, 20, 940 litres of water are used in the production of 1 kilogram of meat as compared to the 50 3 litres of water required for the production of 1 kilogram of wheat(PETA India, 2016). It is, therefore, evident that most of the planets water go to animal agriculture. Other statistics also indicate that in a day a pure vegetarian diet only requires 1,137 litres of water, while 15, 160 litres of water are required for a meat-based diet(PETA India, 2016). It clearly indicates that keeping animals as a source of food exerts pressure on the inadequate water supply on the planet. There is, therefore, more efficient use of water when directed towards producing crops. When individuals consume less meat, the number of herds will decrease and thus reduce this pollution. The Gulf of Mexico not only faces the crisis of oil pollution but also faces dead zones due to excess quantities of animal waste, sewage, and waste from factory farms. Algal blooms develop and take up all the oxygen living inhabitable areas(PETA, 2016). There are about 400 identified dead zones from the Scandinavian fjords to the South China Sea that range in size from 1 to above 70 000 square kilometers. The Natural Resources Defense Council claims that large livestock farms that accommodate hundreds and thousands of cows, chicken and pigs emit a lot of waste which is 130 times more than people do(Worldwatch Institute, 2016). The Environmental Protection Agency in the U.S. states that waste from livestock has polluted rivers for more than 27, 000 miles and also soiled groundwater in a majority of countries(Worldwatch Institute, 2016). Yacoubou encourages the improvement of waste management through technology, such as, the use of readily absorbable feed ingredients that are not excre ted. Furthermore, the improvement of manure collecting process is critical through better housing, manure storage, and processing. Timely manure dosing should also be performed in agreement with the crops requirements(Yacoubou, 2009). Other claims that non-vegetarianism does not harm the planet arise on the issue of land and deforestation stating that by consuming meat land and deforestation does not occur. They blame it on the need for space for industrial and urban needs. They also claim that individuals are adding in number and that is why forests are being cleared to acquire extra space for settling. Their main point is that this land is cleared for commercial, residential and industrial uses. Urbanization that involves the construction of roads is highlighted as among the major contributors of deforestation(Conserve Energy Future, 2016). The claims further suggest that forests are cleared to grow crops for vegetarians placing more emphasis on soy, which is the main ingredient for making tofu. Tofu is a staple food for vegetarians(Mocana Productions, Inc., 2016). Here they stress that being a vegetarian is leading to deforestation as land is required to grow soy for the vegetarians. It is true that soy has covered about 11 million hectares of forest land across South America. However, farmed animals are the ones eating a majority of these soybeans. It is stated in the Encyclopaedia Britannica that about 98% of Americas production of soy goes to feeding the farmed animals(Mocana Productions, Inc., 2016). It is, therefore, safe to say that the deforestation claimed to be by vegetarians is mainly by meat eaters. The expansion of production of livestock is a major factor in deforestation and land degradation. It is clearly evident in Latin America especially, where they experience the greatest deforestation effects. About 70% of the Amazons previously forested land is now occupied by feed crops and pastures(Vegan Outreach, 2016). The World Bank also stated that about 90% of the Amazon rainforest has been cleared since the 1970s and is used for meat production(Friedrich, 2015). It indicates that the forest is being cleared to pave the way for both livestock grazing a nd to grow their feeds. This is not only about cattle. Feeds for chicken and pigs is also grown. A study carried out by the Union of Concerned Scientists discovered that a lot of land is needed for the production of meat. The production of meat globally has also increased and the new land for production has been acquired through clearing forests. The study found this to be a leading factor of deforestation. Beef was also viewed to require more land than pork and chicken that use lesser land to produce similar quantities of protein. The study also discovered that about 60% of agricultural land globally is used for beef production, which offers less than 2% of the calories consumed worldwide(Mishler, 2012). Beef has been termed as an inefficient use of feed resources as it requires 10 kilograms of grain for the production of 1 kilogram of beef. The study pointed out that the food that is raised for livestock, such as, soybeans, corn and alfalfa do not go directly to human consumption. It goes to the livestock that is slaughtered to produce lesser food for fewer individuals. Anothe r study from the Cornell University discovered that about 13m hectares of land was used to grow rice, beans, potatoes, fruits and vegetables in the United States. On the other hand, 302m was used for livestock. The issue was that farm animals have been identified to be inefficient converters of food to flesh. Broiler chickens are considered the best as they only require about 3.4kg to produce 1kg of flesh. Pigs, on the other hand, require 8.4kg to produce 1 kilogram. Various academics have also calculated that if the grains fed to animals were consumed by people directly rather than animals, twice as many individuals would be fed, possibly more. From the above, it is clearly evident that vegetarianism is a good thing especially for the protection of the planets water sources, land, and forests. Vegetarianism is a choice as stated earlier and individuals are free to eat whatever they want. However, they should take into account that eating meat may end up depleting the resources that the children of their children will require to survive, more rapidly than if they became vegetarians. To cater for the reasons offered as to why individuals eat meat and that there are those who cannot stay without eating meat, there are different types of vegetarians mentioned above to choose from. The UCS study also recommended consuming chicken or pork to replace beef, or even purchasing beef from cows living on already deforested land(Mishler, 2012). They found beef to be the most hazardous to the environment. Some Dutch researchers made observations that global vegetarianism would result to expanses of new land(Anderson, 2014). Today, the gr azing land used for livestock rearing accounts for 26% of the worlds land surface. The researchers predict that land used for grazing amounting to about 2.7 billion hectares would be freed. Also, the land used to grow crops for the livestock that amounts to 100 million hectares, would also be freed(Anderson, 2014). Not to be assumed, is the fact that there are individuals living in the dry areas where they cannot grow any crops. Rearing animals for meat becomes their livelihood. For them, education is critical as they can utilize the manure from the animals and in time revitalize the lands and grow crops just as Yacoubou states above. References Anderson, L. V. Crime of the Youth Big Deal! Essay Example
Crime of the Youth: Big Deal! Essay Celebrities like Ashley Simpson, Jojo, Aaron Carter, Daniel Radcliffe and Lindsay Lohan belong to a people that we call youth. They are sometimes part of the headlines whether they are launching new albums or starring in a new movie. They stand as models for other youth that seems to be changing every year. Not only has the fashion trends of these people are being admired and looked on to but also their actions regarding their own lives matter to the people around them. An example of this is Lindsay Lohan whom is a hot and gorgeous singer that has been imprisoned for violating some national rules of their country (Lindsay Lohan). For some the older generations, they may treat her action as an aggressive and arrogant act, which might be very opposite to the outlook of the youth: Lindsay Lohan is really appealing and daring! There are questions that are being imposed by some analysts of culture. Is the media shaping the violence that is acquired by youth? Do the shows in the television matter with the way our youth is acting out on many circumstances? Is media making the youth forget their cultural values that should still be integrated in the future generations? Well, some people just do not seem to care about these issues, but an in depth study can figure out some factors that trigger youthââ¬â¢s risk behavior.Understanding Adolescence and YouthTeenagers or adolescents are at a stage that they are about to discover their real selves and are being prepared to the real world, their career lives. The changes in their physical attributes contribute to their feeling of getting into the adult world. For instance, girls notice their breasts are becoming bigger from months or years after they stepped 9 ââ¬â 10 year old. There is also a noticeable increase in the size of their hips, making it difficult for their old jeans to be worn. For the boys, they feel the urge of eating more due to the strenuous activities they do as they grow older. Biceps and triceps are n ow the focus of their concerns, so as to add to their masculinity in the future (Home Office). Generally, adolescents feel more conscious about their physical selves and become less cautious of what they do as part of their discoveries of self. They try doing stuffs that are far more different with their hide and seek or their Barbie bonding with other girl friends. They are undergoing a stage when they find security and affection from their peers making them fight for their independence to their parents by breaking house rules and defending themselves the best way they can to their oppressors known as their parents.Adolescent people comprise the bulk of most of our societies where birth control is not implemented. Japan of course is an exemption for this where the huge part of their population contributes to the work force and not to the part that depend their survival with the earnings of their parents. They contribute to the number of youth which is expected to have high contribu tions in the work and labor force of the country in the future.Facing the ChangesFor instance in the adolescent stage, youth really look for something that neither their friends nor their parents can answer. That is the part when adolescents search for their identities and how to make a big difference in this world. Vices are common in this age such as drinking alcohol and smoking, and worst when an adolescent engages in activities that would violate moral laws. Furthermore, adolescents try to establish their own fashion sense through searching in the ââ¬Å"hippestâ⬠magazines so as to be identified from the others. Though they may belong to a certain group, they still have their own personalities that distinguish them from the others.Adolescents look for affection and love from others. It is at this stage that they are in search of belongingness from their peers. But as it is mentioned by Brutts in his article, it is very important that concerned people like their parents, gu ardians and teachers should guide the youth.Violence on YouthIt has been a clichà © that the youth today are the problem of the world due to the violence they produce in the society. Many researchers are dwelling on the study on how the youth is acquiring the brutality and cruelty they are showing the media (Institute for Youth Development). For one point in the history, there are studies that pointed out that the media is the main reason of this abrupt change in the culture and norms of the youth.Even though the youth of the world came from various places and origins, the same problems arise from continents to continent. According to reports, there is already a huge increase in the percentage of crimes that were made by the youth. Gang rapes, murders, drug abuse, robbery and other crimes that gravely involve the youth, specifically the male participation, are part of the headlines of news reports in paper and in broadcast aside from the government issues that each country has. Wom en or girls also participate in the aggressiveness of the youth through prostitution in places where this business is not legalized. Furthermore, the cruelty of the youth today is spread widely like an epidemic disease that if not halted may cause distraction not only of self but also of the family and nation.Imagine a community full of young people that are engaged in alcohol and drug abuse. Isnââ¬â¢t that a very dreadful and tragic situation? Indeed, it is. Being given of importance, the youth in other places are funded by the government for their growth. The government has its own plans of honing the skills of its youth to its fullest so that they may become highly competitive with others. If the youth by which these funds are allocated has lives that are not for the professionalism the government is expecting, it would just weaken the forces of labor of the government, thus dismay the leaders and give them punishments that would prohibit their ever wanted freedom and independ ence.Cultural Effects and the FutureThe changes and the development of technology accompanied this aggression of the youth. Media covers up a large factor of this fate given that it has shown the youth of examples of actions that should not be done or should not be morally or culturally accepted by a certain culture or religion. In every part of the earth, there are many developments of the portrayal of the roles of anomalous people such as corrupt government officials, cruel teachers and aggressive mistresses. The youth now sees that doing the wrong things can be just right especially when it is not known by the authority; say their parents or the police. When they do something that is not caught often times, it becomes their habit that comes with their routine making them forget the great values our ancestors had inculcated from generation to generation. However, before we get to the point of concluding the harmful effects of their actions, let us try to search for their reasons of doing so. Psychologists and psychiatrists like Kathie Oginsky and Jeffrey Brutts are trained to analyze human behavior so as to relate them with past, present and even with the future personality of their patients. According from the reports, youth gather their violent thoughts through their interaction with people who might have given them the fear, anger and hatred they are showing to others. Media says that even if a toddler can express this kind of violence with bullying other classmates and seeing no regrets after the action. These behaviors must be treated by the experts to avoid much damage; both for the physical and emotional being of the victim (person being bullied) (Kathie Oginsky, 2001).Another thing is that, youth who are oppressed in their homes with very strict but not violent parents tend to experiment and feel joy upon escaping the claws of the predating mommies and daddies. With this, they try stuffs that they think can make them feel a little better, thus a gram of cocaine will do. This is a very simple example of how youth tries to escape with their frustrations in the family. In the TV series entitled Desperate Housewives, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Van de Kamp turned out to be a cruel son going on disco bars with nude girls dancing, and tried using drugs, but eventually fell into his feet admitting that he is a gay. Such examples are very depressing to parents who tried everything to give their children their best efforts for education and other pleasures of being the one who is served by the parents (Desperate Housewives, 2008).An important thing that we must also consider is how we give our punishments to our children. We all no that no one in this world is born perfect, and that is to say we commit mistakes in our daily lives and with our decisions, we might be very careless that can cause some consequences on it. Our youth also do the same. Since they are preparing to become adults, they try to make decisions on their own sometimes with the habit of just ââ¬Å"crossing the riverâ⬠when the action is already done. If parents punish their children for example in a very violent way, close to killing them, then they may be also cruel in treating other people. They may punish their subordinates or the people they interact with the same way their parents punish them.In what can be seen, say morally, kids do not consider the things that were being considered 10 years ago. With that very short span of time, the transition of the values of the youth is very explicit. Having a number of condom commercials can be a good proof that media now do not offer so much limitation in what they show to people. This is giving rise to the problem of many, which is youth violence, which are often taken for granted. An article about juvenile delinquency (2003) states that factors for this issue can also be connected with the youth committing violence and crime. The factor that the article mentioned were: economic and social factors t hat are connected with present politics, crises and the like; cultural factors, urbanization that results to modernization of ideals, family that brings about rejection or inferiority complex that usually results to rebellion; migration; media that offers new ways of living life; exclusion, peer influence and delinquent identities. The article also mentioned some practices to prevent such issues like imposing to parents that they must not be treating their children violently because it can trigger violent behavior in the future lives of the young. Income generation is also a way to divert the attention of the youth. Instead of engaging to activities that involve vices and not so good stuffs, youth will be oriented of how hard it is to obtain money in sustaining every dayââ¬â¢s expenses. Moreover, if a youth is still under age, they might be given chances to be in sports fest and recreational activities that will enhance their good personalities rather than the aggressive and viol ent part. A good planning of youth activities may indeed help in the success of each goal: preventing youth crime and violence. In order to stop this dispersion of decayed thinking of youth, the government must impose a bill that can control the explicitly inviting pictures to the youth giving them the access to any place in town. Media plays a role in molding the culture of the young people and it is just right that they put discourse to youth crime/youth problems in great attention. In that way of focusing on youth, they can correct the mistakes of the careless past advertisements and at least encourage the youth to participate and contribute to the welfare of the nation (US Scouting Service Project, 2007).Parents must have their close relationships with their sons and daughters. I feel on my part that if the youth is nurtured with adequate love and freedom, they will not seek for something more of their limits. Instead, they will grow as better persons who will have their goals of succeeding more in their loves, whether it concerns their academe, career or family life.ReferencesDesperate Housewives. Bios. Building a Comprehensive School Discipline Referral Form
Building a Comprehensive School Discipline Referral Form A school discipline referral form is utilized in most school districts. Each district tailors the referral form to meet their particular needs. There are many important reasons that school districts require their teachers and administrators to utilize these forms. These include: Creating a paper trail to protect everyone involved.Gives the principal a starting point and foundation for gathering information relevant to the behavior infraction. Can help establish and document a pattern of student behavior.Guides the discipline process ensuring that every student sent the office on a discipline referral is being met with the same process.à Forces the teacher to evaluate what prior strategies they have implemented on their own to attempt to correct the behavior. Schools that do not use a school discipline referral form to document student behavior issues will likely have several obstacles should legal action be taken by a constituent of the district. Filling out and adhering to a school discipline referral form does take time. However, it is worth it as serves to protect everyone involved in the process. Investigating obstacles and enabling located firms in special economic Essay
Investigating obstacles and enabling located firms in special economic zones - Essay Example The ââ¬Å"special economic zoneâ⬠(SEZ) is another term used to refer to the formation of modern economic region. In line with this, governments worldwide normally promote the development of SEZs in order to increase the chances wherein the country could experience increase not only in intra-regional and international trade activities but also the inflows of foreign investments and creation of new job opportunities for the local people (Wang, 2013; Brautigam and Xiaoyang, 2011). In the process of improving transportation infrastructure that connects the SEZs to the local market (Baissac, 2011, pp. 24 ââ¬â 25), ports, and airports, more local and foreign investors will become more attracted in investing in SEZs. Companies that operate in SEZs are normally given special business incentives like duty-free imports, tax holidays, the benefit of having a more simplified procedure when dealing with the customs (FIAS, 2008, p. 2) or reduction in import taxes for foreign-based companies (Gunawardana and Sisombat, 2008). Since each type of SEZ is being governed by a different set of policies and rules particularly when it comes to taxation and conditions on investment and international trading (Dobrogonov and Farole, 2012, p. 5; Baissac, 2011, p. 23), this study aims to focus on analyzing the case of Savan-Seno Special Economic Zone (SASEZ) in Savannakhet Province in Laos. As such, the rationale for zone development will be tackled in details followed by discussing the geographical, economical, and international trade factors that can affect the performance of SASEZ. In relation to geographical, economical, and international trades, this study aims to identify the determinants of FDI, participation strategies used by foreign investors, and the common challenges these firms would normally encounter in SASEZ. The main objective of this study is to identify all geographic, economic, and international trade factors that

Tuberous Sclerosis A Rare Disease Research Proposal
Tuberous Sclerosis A Rare Disease - Research Proposal Example Definition of Tuberous Sclerosis Tuberous Sclerosis is one of the genetic and rare disorders being closely monitored and evaluated by the Office of Rare Diseases Research (ORDR) under the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (ORDR, 2009). It was thereby defined as ââ¬Å"a genetic disorder characterized by the growth of numerous noncancerous (benign) tumors in many parts of the bodyâ⬠(ORDR, 2009, par. 1). The definition provided by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS) more comprehensively identified the affected parts of the body, to wit: ââ¬Å"Tuberous sclerosis--also called tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) - is a rare, multi-system genetic disease that causes benign tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. It usually affects the central nervous system and results in a combination of symptoms including seizures, developmental delay, behavioral problems, skin abnorma lities, and kidney diseaseâ⬠(NINDS, 2012, par. 1). Both definitions classify this disorder as genetic and manifested through multiple growths of specifically identified tumors in different parts of the body. Causes Since the disease is classified under genetic and rare disorder, its cause is thereby traced through inheritance (PubHealth Med, 2010). As disclosed, ââ¬Å"changes (mutations) in two genes, TSC1 and TSC2, are responsible for most cases of the condition. Only one parent needs to pass on the mutation for the child to get the disease. However, most cases are due to new mutations, so there usually is no family history of tuberous sclerosisâ⬠(PubHealth Med, 2010, pars. 2 & 3). This means that although most cases have identified the cause to be directly handed to the sibling from even one parent, there have been cases where both parents did not carry a defective gene but new mutations were manifested. Known through a process called ââ¬Å"gonadal mosaicism. These p atients have parents with no apparent defects in the two genes that cause the disorder. Yet these parents can have a child with TSC because a portion of one of the parent's reproductive cells (sperm or eggs) can contain the genetic mutation without the other cells of the body being involvedâ⬠(NINDS, 2012, par. 8). Symptoms The symptoms for this illness were categorized into three: skin symptoms, brain symptoms, and other symptoms, and are hereby detailed as follows: (1) skin symptoms include: areas of the skin that are white (due to decreased pigment) and have either an ash leaf or confetti appearance; red patches on the face containing many blood vessels (adenoma sebaceum); and raised patches of skin with an orange-peel texture (shagreen spots), often on the back; (2) brain symptoms include: developmental delays, mental retardation, seizures; and (3) other symptoms include: pitted tooth enamel, rough growths under or around the fingernails and toenails, rubbery noncancerous tu mors on or around the tongue (PubHealth Med, 2010). Genetic Make-Up The explanation provided by Howell (n.d.) on the genetic analysis of this illness clearly and explicitly illustrated the mutation in one of two identified genes, the ââ¬Å"TSC1 gene is located on chromosome 9q34 and the TSC2 gene on chromosome 16p13â⬠(Howell: Gene Analysis, n.d, par. 1). The illustrations are hereby presented as
